If you don't win many battles, try combining armies. You can have a force with up to three artilery units.
Keep away from Mexicans and as soon as Indian territory is captured, get out of the way.
At the start of the battles, hold down the fire button to destroy the enemy cannon with ease. Destroy the bridge and stay out of the way of the infantry.
