The Atari Panther was scheduled to be launched in 1991, however it was Not released, as the Jaguars development was rapid and Atari saw an opportunity to "skip" a generation. It was a 32bit console & predecessor to Jaguar. Two known games were written for it, Crescent Galaxy and Raiden.

  • Motorola 68000 running at 16Mhz
  • 32k of fast static Ram
  • 64k of ROM
  • 65536 Sprites at the same time
  • Hardware scrolling
  • Ensoniq Chip "Otis" @ 8 MIPS
    • 8k reserved solely for sound
    • 29bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor with various filters etc
    • 32 Separate voices each with independant volume
    • 16-Bit Stereo sound of PCM
    • Stereo headphone jacks
  • Chip "Panther" (from the "Blossom" - project)
    • Main resolution of 320 by 200 (non interlaced)
    • 32 colours per line from a pallette of 262,144 colours
    • 7,860 colours on screen at any one time (very impressive for the day!)
    • 32bit Graphic processor running at 32Mhz
    • 2,000 sprites on screen at any one time!
    • output via Antenna, RGB and SVHS
    • Genlock option
  • Control: 2 Multi functions Joystick ports
  • 3-button-Joysticks
