[SampleMaker] licensed by Virtual Sounds was introduced 1987. It is a Sample Editor with a twist, allowing editing of parameters via MIDI of various samplers, including the Ensoniq Mirage, Akai S900, Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000, Emu Emax, Ensoniq EPS and Casio FZ-1. Essentially SampleMaker does not allow the editing of digital audio, but allows editing of sample data via MIDI. Arguably it was the first pure MIDI Sample Editor for the Atari TOS range. At the top end it is capable of handling the Casio FZ-1's 16-bit samples, up to it's Sample Rate of 36 kHz, however a table of each Sampler and their respective Sample Format and Sample Rates that SampleMaker can handle are specified below.

Sampler Sample Format Max. Sample Rate
Ensoniq Mirage [8 bits] [32 kHz]
Akai S900 [12 bits] [40 kHz]
Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 [12 bits] [42 kHz]
Emu Emax [12 bits] [42 kHz]
Ensoniq EPS [13 bits] [52 kHz]
Casio FZ-1 [16 bits] [36 kHz]
