SampleMaker licensed by Virtual Sounds was introduced 1987. It is a MIDI Sample Editor, allowing editing of parameters via MIDI of various samplers, including the Ensoniq Mirage, Akai S900, Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000, E-mu Emax, Ensoniq EPS and Casio FZ-1. It was one of the very first pure Universal MIDI Sample Editors for the Atari TOS range. It also provides support for the MIDI Sample Dump Standard (SDS). At the top end it is capable of handling the Casio FZ-1's 16-bit samples, up to it's Sample Rate of 36 kHz, however a table of each Sampler and their respective Sample Format and Sample Rates are specified below.

Sampler Sample Format Max. Sample Rate
Ensoniq Mirage 8 bits 32 kHz
Akai S900 12 bits 40 kHz
Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 12 bits 42 kHz
E=mu Emax 12 bits 42 kHz
Ensoniq EPS 13 bits 52 kHz
Casio FZ-1 16 bits 36 kHz
